Did my cousin screw this up?

My cousin posted his recipe for a brisket he has in a brine for 8 days, I have never used Tender Quick before, but it seems that four cups of Tender Quick to 1 gallon of water is too much. Am I wrong?

No. The TQ instructions for a wet brine call for 1 cup TQ to 1 quart of water. So your cousin is spot on.

That is the right amount , and alot of salt . Is he trying to cure for corned beef or pastrami ? Or is that a brine formula for smoked brisket ? Just asking because I do this with chicken in lesser amounts of TQ to control the salt . I am HOT smoking though at 250 275 .

He never said what he was planning to do with it, but I think he is going go the corned beef route in his Sous Vide. My wife made one a few weeks ago, took a 50 hour bath, but it came out great. Better than anything I have ever done in the pit. She posted pics on FB and maybe he saw that.

Is this info on the TQ package ?? I looked all over their site and find nothing re:how much to use for what, with the exception of a few recipes. I'm too lazy to go dig mine out of the back of the pantry.

Yes, that is from the instructions on the package. Mine was in the front of the pantry.
