Could I get more info on the adjustable tack system.
CF there will be three of those modified supports in the drum. the cooking grate and the charcoal basket will have three support pins (rods). Drop the grate in rotate the support rods into the notches on the support bracket.

How many cooking grates you gonna use?

I am only gonna use 2.

For now just one. In the future I may use two or more. I wanted the adjustable system so I can put larger cut in the smoker and so I can control the distance between the meat and the coals.

Send me the dimensions, I probably have the materials on hand!

I'm thinking that I want the basket to be 15" in diameter and about 8" tall. I also want to attach an ash pan about 3" below the bottom of the basket. For the support tabs I think that it would be best to weld those on at the top of the basket. I'm not sure what the spacing or lengths will nee to be for those. I'll have to mock something up once I have the three supports in. I bought a 18.5" grate for the grill and it will need to have supports welded onto it also. For temporary use and mock up of the grill I was just going to u-bolt some rods to the grate! Which that could serve as a template for the basket too! Now I'm thinking!

,  enough chit chat brother....get-er-done!  lol    BTW  my charcoal pan just sits on the bottom and pull it up only when it needs emptied (every 2-4 cooks) depending on lump or KB.  I just think it's easier to clean separate because you'll get fat gouped up on it besides ash.

Don't be tainting this thread with hybrid UDS info!! Pellets are for smoke not heat, lol!

Burning paint. Looks like I need to run to the hardware store. It appears that one of my boys has made off with my wire brush...

I'm shocked you're using an i robot brush on your parts and using your kids as an excuse for losing your wire brush..lmao
