Hi Gang, I'm working with a Brinkmans Electric that does a real good job of 150-160 degree smoking (Thermometer added)

I want to be able to lower that temp for cold smoking and am looking for ideas.

Current thoughts are to

1. Raise the top lid

2. Open the side vent

3. Add ice to the water tray

Any thoughts?

Get an AMNPS Pellet Smoke Generator... http://www.amazenproducts.com/

Let's you generate smoke at almost any temp and has a wide variety of100% Smoke wood Pellets or Dust  in flavors like Hickory, Apple and a great blend called Pitmaster's Choice...JJ

Appreciate the link - buying another smoker at the moment is not one of my options
The AMZN is not a whole nother smoker, it is just a smoke generator - a darn good and fairly cheap one at that!

The AMZN products are made by Todd Johnson who is a SMF member, and they produce smoke with all most no heat, so they are great for any type of cold smoking. Todd has some great kits for under $40 that will get you started. I have seen some folks place an AMZN smoker in a cardboard box with some cheese on stacked cookie cooling racks - cut a hole in the bottom and top for vents and viola! a cold smoker!

Forums are great, lots of helpful people to answer questions, however it is hard to know a good answer if you don't bother to read some of the posts in the forum.  If you go back 2 or 3 pages of post, you will notice recommendations for the AWNPS multiple time, you would have then easily figured out that the advertising on the side of these post you are reading from A-Maze-N-Products is for the AWNPS.

The AWNPS is about half the cost of some Brinkman electric smokers, so if you are on a tight budget then you might want another solution.  There are posts in this electric forum as well as in multiple forums on this website, that explain with pictures how to take a tin can & electric soldering iron to use as a cold smoke generator.  If you have difficulty finding one of those posts let us know one of us will find it for you.
