Cooking with the lid open on my pellet smoker

I just bought the Pitt Boss Austin XL Smoker,and like it so far.Can I cook steak subs on it with the lid open?I have a flat top that I'd put on the grates,and will cook on that.Just not sure if the smoker will get hot enough with the lid open

If you open the slide and let the flames come up you can,i do about 3 at a time to flame kiss them, i set to smoke for about 30-40 minutes then turn up to 500 and slide the plate over,it dont take but a couple minutes and flips and I’m done

Mikes got you covered! When cooking with the lid open, your using the direct heat produced by the fire pot which is directly over the flame broiling slits
