This is the same photo about 12 hours later. The blue spruce tree was pretty loaded at sunrise, but the wind came up and that shook some of the snow loose. Latest forecast is for at least 6 more hours of snow.... but winds could gust to 50 mph. Airport and all roads out of town are closed until at least Monday. I-80 from Nebraska to Utah is closed.

Final report, the storm is winding down. I've already starting digging out. I measured 27" in my driveway this afternoon.. Yes, that's a yardstick in the snow. I should finish the job tomorrow and put this one to bed.

My smokers??? Well that's a Tuesday or Wednesday adventure.

Glad the storm is moving on , but it left a lot of sh!! behind. That's a lot of work this late in the year when one should be thinking about fishing and cooking outdoors
Hope thats the end of it for you
David

We were somewhere between 2-3’ to your south (northern Colorado). Tough to tell exactly with the wind drifting everything. No smoking today...just moving snow.

Normally the smokers stay dry under the deck.

How long will the snow be around?

Many years past I was in Denver about this time of the year.
2' of snow and the place was a mess.
2 days later it was 70's. Some roads were pretty bad, but they did have some priorities.
A golf course was plowed and open for business.

That's a hard one to answer. The plows are only focusing on the main arterial streets, the county plows are battling drifting, and every road is closed. Most businesses are closed today and probably tomorrow. Fire trucks and ambulances are getting stuck. The good news is the temps are in the high 30's. Cheyenne which is 180 miles to the south got somewhere over 30". Here is a photo of downtown from last night.

That's quite a dump of snow. Thats going to stick around for a while, or start some flooding if you get a quick melt.
Hang in there,
David

Yep, flood warnings have gone out since we'll see temps in the 50's in the coming days. Meanwhile, even plows are getting stuck.

And this guy decided to take a drive on the interstate to see how well his car handled.... he was stranded for several hours waiting to be rescued.

Wow, thats just too much this late in the season. I know we expect some but not that much. I hope buddy in the Mini cooper was ok , BUT he deserves to get stuck if he was out just joy riding
David
There's a big penalty for doing that around here. Plus the towing bill
He should get fined... you just can't fix stupid!

Ryan

I don't recall if the article mentioned Laramie or Cheyenne, but both cities are on I-80, which is prone to closing due to snow. It did say the Mini Cooper had California plates, so it's a fair bet the owners have been stranded in a motel since Friday. We have so many online travel reports, and quite a few web cams so a test drive is not necessary.

The Highway Patrol's statement was that the driver was ticketed, and had to pay his own tow charges. I think where the fine may escalate was the fact that traffic was stopped, and plowing was stopped for quite some time.
