Computer Server Cabinet Smoker

Looking good!  Can't wait to see the finished product.  We have 30 lbs of venison jerky going in ours on Saturday.

Just a suggestion. If you have a chance at getting ahold of an old restraunt food warmer, grab it.

I made my smoker from an old food warmer that a local school had no future use for. It has 1 inch thick insulated walls and top, The one I got still had the electric unit in it, but the fan had been removed.

I installed a nat gas control valve on the outside wall and a burner just above the electric unit inside. I use the electric when I make beef jerky, its wonderful to set the temp at 140 degrees and let it go.

When I want to smoke, I lite the burner, put my pan of wood chips on a rack above the burner and walla, my smoker.

I also cut a 2 inch by 8 inch rectangle hole in the upper part of the door and made a sliding vent cover that I can adjust for how much smoke I want to retain in the unit.

Food warmer makes a good smoker.

Hello I just bought a cabinet for $40. Would like to make a electric removable and propane depending on smoke application. Did you find it necessary to sand blast the inside of the cabinet? I am very impressed with the strength and quality of this cabinet.

Sorry - just saw the above post now.  The inside of my cabinet was not painted.  I would error on the side of caution and sand blast the inside if it is painted.  We only used grill paint on the outside of ours.  We saw no need to paint the inside.
