Hi! I went over 10 yrs ago.
Its was in my territory while working, figuring I could get a quick bit to eat?
Very disappointed, very high priced food! after a few minutes I quickly left.
And that was 10 yrs ago !
I can not even imagine what ridiculous prices are there today? due to high food costs now?
It remined me of a state fair/Circus atmosphere charging Disney world / Stadium prices ?
Alot of pre painted logos signs displays, ect.
I would not go to it?
Why?
Can make better food at a reasonable price @ home!
Not to meantion its a crap shoot of what food product yur buying?
If I am going to spend that kind of $? Go to a nice sitdown comfy restaurant ?
Just my 2C !
Again ? Not worth it ? Unless yur there to show off yur craft and make $?

I've never been to one as a spectator, only as a competitor, and a lot of competitions don't allow for food sales, since many/most teams don't have a food service license. Still, they're interesting to wander around; you can get a lot of ideas for cooking at home just from seeing the setups the teams are using, and talking to the cooks. A lot of top teams are willing to share maybe 80% of their secrets...

I can't comment on the food pricing compared to your local BBQ restaurants, but depending on the quality of your local restaurants, the food might be better at the competition, and you'll almost certainly have a chance to try some things that won't show up on the restaurant menu.

Never a BBQ comp , but I'd go . Have some fun and try some stuff .
Last summer We went to a thing called " Makers of Missouri " . All kinds of things there . Pricey , yes . I paid 10 bucks for 5 beef and cheddar snack sticks . Lol . My Son bought some dry soup mixes , that he now orders online . Expensive , but that's OK now and then . Treat yourself to something different .
Support the people that made the effort .
If you go please report back . Have a great time !

Well? I can tell you this?
I Went to this exact BBQ event!
They sold typically BBQ menu.
Ribs
Brisket
Chicken
Usual sides: beans Mac ect .
I will leave it at that!?

I'd be inclined to go and keep an open mind. What could it hurt? If things are terrible expensive, vote with your wallet. No big deal. Even if the prices are insane, it's not like you have to try something from every stand. And if you're not expecting to spend 25 or 30 bucks/ person... stay home.

I would think if they didn't charge something, they'd have every homeless person within 100 miles coming for free food. So, I couldn't fault that either. Who knows, you might get some ideas there for new recipes to try, even if you might have to work out how they did it on your own.

I have a sister who lives in Dallas and she's gone to many of these sort of things there. She sent me a link to a Chili cookoff where the site has recipes from the winners from decades of past competitions. I want to say she told me those are a single entry fee but honestly I don't recall. We discuss a lot of different stuff. That would be what I'd expect from this place given what Smoke-Chem BBQ mentioned above about needing a food license.

I've been to a handful of these heavily advertised events.
If you want the experience of the event, I say go.
If you expect your que, stay home.

Good move ?
Say hello to my daughter working on the beach !
FYI: Expecting rain @ 2 - 3 PM.
Do you like Seafood?
Smittys Calm bar, Somers Pt.
Cash only, reasonably priced.
Highly recommend the place.
Order the daily specials, better than the regular menu.
BYOB: Circle Liquors nearby for drinks.

Don’t do seafood. Sometimes fried shrimp I’m okay with but that’s about it. Wife loves it so had to pick something

As a former carny- I just want everyone to know the vendors charge big because it’s pay to play at these events. You could be out thousands just for showing up, then inventory, supplies, insurance, maybe lodging. It all adds up really quick. Out of a Friday, Saturday, Sunday event, you spend until Sunday noon digging yourself out of the hole. Then you get to make some money. I almost never pay for bbq- it’s rarely NOT a disappointment, but for the things you don’t make or can’t do better - you pay the ransom.

I totally get that for me. It wasn’t about the money it was about the time spent in Wildwood boardwalk is about another half hour from where I ended up going and I had a appointment later in the afternoon so I would’ve had to hit it too early I never mind paying any price for good barbecue and coming off a competitors smoker is well worth the value good or bad just to try. We all know a lot of time and effort goes into smoking. A piece of meat barbecue is one thing I don’t expect to be cheap chicken Parmesan, however one of my favorite Italian dishes, always overpriced
