Well its that time of year again when getting outside to smoke meat is challenge.

I have a pole barn and run my pellet grill inside with the doors cracked open about as wide as the stack to let the smoke out. I also have a walled off shop/kitchen in the middle, where I do my curing and sausage making, that I heat with a big torpedo heater. So I only have to go out in the cold every now and then while I have a cook going to make sure the hopper isn't tunneling.

My plan is to wall off the area I use for sausage making, insulate it really well, and have heat and AC for that part of my shop ..... maybe more of a dream than a plan lol.

Yup the colder weather is upon us. Last night's overnight temp was in the 20s. Today's high will be in the upper 30s. Snow is in the forecast for Weds. I'll use my gasser in the garage for quick cooks like steak and burgers. However I'll still use my kettles out in the backyard for longer cooks in the winter. That is when the skies are clear and the wind is nonexistent.

You need to get a shelter or building like DougE DougE has or others also,
me thank god for the " Smokers Shack "

Has to be an actual storm that I don't want to walk out of house to get to the smoker

LOL
You mean like this? Been doing this for many years and still don't like going out when its 40 below.

I know you guys up north are struggling with the cold weather in the winter, but down here in FL, this is our smoking season. It’s too hot in the summer to smoke, but now it is just perfect, and it only gets better from here. We get a few really good months just like you northerners do, just at a different time!

Oh I will still do some smoking during the winter. Just have to pick your days when its hovering around 25-35 degrees. Going to be doing some pork and deer loins in a few days so I got the deck all shoveled off to the smokers.

I kind of like smoking in the cold months. If there is snow, I'll dig a path to the grill area. PA winters aren't too bad where I am.
