Decided since I was cold smoking cheese I would do some salt. I cold smoked it for about 12 hrs. It turned out pretty well.

This is one more thing that I have been wanting to do & just haven't got around to it yet.
But this winter when I smoke some cheese, you can bet there will be some salt in the smoker as well!
You did a great job on yours!

Really got some color into that salt. I've tried hot smoking it before an only got a light amber color and not much flavor. Will definitely have to try this again.

Jane I used the perfect pellet mix. GMC when I cold smoked the salt I placed the salt directly above the AMZNPS.

I haven't smoked salt in a couple years now. You got me wanting to do up a batch now! I used to also do some peppercorns with it. Good project for this week!

Rehashing this thread.

My dad and his girlfriend are impossibly hard to buy for. His GF is a major foodie and loves getting food related gifts. Different spices, seasonings, homemade things, etc., she loves. This would be right up her alley.

Would you care to share your methods for smoking salt? How do you arrange it in the cooker?

I've never seen chunky S.Salt like that.
Smoking salt or any other spice is simple, pour onto a cookie sheet and smoke for an hour or two, let cool and store in spice jars. If you have a pellet oven this is one of the only ways to kick up yhesmoke taste on your food.
