Chim chim cher-oo...
...
Old guys with kids will get the reference.

I own a third floor condo. Can't have a charcoal grill so both Webers are in storage.
Can't have a 20 pound propane bottle, so my Charmglow is at my buddy's house.
Fire department and the evil HOA hasn't said anything about pellet grills... I mean, "electric smokers".

My GMG makes a lot of smoke. This summer, when the air was still, my deck would fill with it, despite two fans.

As a conscientious neighbor (and an evil HOA board member), I devised a way to route the smoke up, up and away.

I considered PVC or ABS but was worried about melting. I decided to use 3x4 aluminum downspout. One 10 footer and two elbows. I cut it into two 3' and one 4' pieces. Since I do not own the outside of my home, I needed it to be temporary and removable, yet rigid and wind resistant. I was able to fabricate a couple of clips that allow the chimney to slip into place easily but it breaks down in less than a minute.

Here you can see the four foot rise, elbow, three foot semi horizontal, elbow and the bottom of the three foot vertical that extends above the roof.

"As a conscientious neighbor"

Uhmm... no.

A conscientious neighbor wouldn't run a smoker with hobbled together vent components on a wooden covered patio in a shared structure living community. There's a reason why those laws exist and it isn't to just be mean.

...and from an HOA board member no less.

Do some Googling about what can happen with smokers, in particular your beloved GMG pellet smoker (I know because I too own one) and you may change your tune. They can go Boom! and heaven forbid yours did because it could endanger every family in that structure.

Mine is on a cement patio away from the house and I'm still not 100% comfortable with it having seen what a catastrophic smoker failure looks like now.

Honestly, this post and seeing those pictures is what makes me never want to own a condo or townhome. I know you think it's no big deal but history is littered with countless families put out on the streets because the person who caused the fire "didn't think it was a big deal" when violation specific rules and regulations.
