Now those look like proper chicken nuggets! Well done! And you cant go wrong with recipes from Serious Eats. I have been a J. Kenji López-Alt fan since I got The Food Lab. He has discovered and debunked a lot of stuff
Are there any store-bought chicken nuggets that are considered "healthy"? I found a recipe that uses only a few ingredients, but I’m curious if there are convenient options available for purchase.
Ha, ha! That's subjective to what one considers "healthy"...
Walmart here carries two. They have these keto ones that are also gluten free
They also have these which are still gluten free and keto as far as I'm concerned.
But for me...I had been looking in to making my own chicken fingers; I love wings but I'm getting lazy and they are a mess usually since I'm usually using sauce. I wanted whole boneless chicken parts, not the ground up chicken that simulates nuggets. I was about to get in to making my own but did a little poking around in the products out there beforehand. For me, I'm seeking out deep fryable products, they are hard to find anymore because everyone is paranoid about deep frying, for some reason.
I had a microbiologist customer of mine some years ago explain the chemical reactions that happen when frying and deep frying. As I was looking at the plate of shrimp he was having for lunch, it looked like he had spritzed them with some sort of oil and coated them with fresh bread crumbs. That's how he was eating them, precooked, likely boiled or steamed...as he spoke, his words began to sound like the adults on Charlie Brown and I glazed over...my mind went to, "here is Peter going on about healthy eating and he has one of the worst cases of halitosis I have even encountered! Reminded me of nearly every vegetarian I encountered while working on the tofu processing equipment at the nearby commune. Something about that "healthy eating" makes people stink!
I digress...anyway I ran across
Walmart's Famous Chicken Fingers
Oh my goodness. They deep fry wonderfully with a super crunchy crust and they are delicious.
Screw it, I'm diggin' these! They will maintain a spot in my freezer for the foreseeable future, and so easy if you have the ultimate easy clean fryer like me. I alternate buffalo sauce on them and I make a Chic-fil-A copycat sauce that is at least as good as theirs, if not better. What an easy button meal. Just some bean or cucumber salad on the side and ummmm-mmmm.
