Just wanted to share.

I have SERIOUS issues with gout. So pork is a HUGE NO NO for me. Picked up some boneless skinless chicken thighs and figured I'd make brats out of em. Well, we did up approx 10 lbs. When mixing spices in, I did add some extra virgin olive oil into it so they wouldn't be as dry when eating em. I've had mouthfulls of sawdust cutting firewood for 15 years, sawdust doesn't taste good so I added oil. Needless to say, family loved em. We managed to consume 10 lbs of brats in under 10 days. Go figure, rekin its time to make some more. Yesterday we were at a buddys house, took the grinder, mixer and stuffer over there and made up 10lbs of mild Italian sausage using *papa greco* seasoning the wife picked up off fleabay after the first round of brats. heres a few pics if i can get em to work. last one is the imported german kraut we use and the wine we add to it.

Sausage looks great JC.... Sorry to hear about the gout... I suffer from it too.... Just a heads up, Your general family doctors offices suck at treating gout. I finally went to a rheumatology specialist to get the right treatment and relief from the gout attacks......

Good luck

Joe

Those sausage look terrific, but that sauerkraut is NOT your friend (sure is good though).

Joe that's called ALLOPURINOL 300mg/day ..... me too!

Most of the docs give you INDOCIN (indomethacin) which never worked for me.  A better med that most of the docs don't know about is oxaprozin (DayPro) ... works well when you just feel it about to happen.

AND, knock off the red wine, easy on that beer too ... dang, how do you eat sausage without beer and chips?

scarbelly, thanks for that link. we'll definitley give it a try SOON. wife is from the philippines and she really enjoys mangos.

relaxn/boyjko I've tried em all for the gout. when my kidneys took a dump 20 years ago is when i began having problems with gout. Imagine gout issues at 17yo!!!

they put me on prednisone to keep my kidneys in working pretty good. if you've ever had it, you know what  it does. well, finally about 10 years ago dr's decided i could finally quit taking that stuff. well, thats when my gout REALLY hit hard. dr's would give me a quick 7 day scrip for prednisone. i've taken the old colchicine, allopuronal, uloric, cherry juice, etc,etc,etc,etc..... once the wife got comfortable using computers, she searched it up good for me. since its partially a arthritis thing, partially a diet thing, it effects everyone differently. me, having bum kidneys just makes it worse, plus 2 of the meds i take for the kidneys increase the chances of gout, plus my enjoyment of PORK and wine and beer and rum and vodka and and and and and..... sets me up to be one misserable yound codger. so i try to keep a bottle of prednisone ((seems to work best for me)) on the med. shelf. my rheumatologist never seemed keen on the idea because of the side effects. I figure since i was on the stuff for over 10 years, a few tabs a year to clear up a gout issue isn't going to kill me. something else im experimenting with on gout is vinegar. used to drink 1/4 cup a day but it got to where my stomach couldn't handle it. was making italian sausage with buddy saturday and felt my ankle hurting more and more. by the time 7pm came, i was having problems walking. drank about 1/2 cup of ***bragg brand natural vinegar*** my buddy keeps. by 9pm when we headed home, i hopped to the truck with my buddy supporting me. sunday morning, when i woke up, my ankle didn't hurt a bit. nothing else different all week in my lifestyle accept for the *natural* vinegar saturday evening. sunday, my big toe joint and wrist were killing me, still are, but my ankle is completely cleared up. so i will be experimenting with it now.

relaxn, sorry, no wine in the pics cause im currently batteling gout. run out of prednisone and haven't got more yet. didn't want the chips ruining the picture. i'm a sucker for chips, probably 2/3rds the reason im as fat as i am...

Hey junkcollector ... man you got it bad.  Have a look at baking soda to reduce the blood pH.  I've tried that with some success.  Heard about the vinegar and it may do the same thing.

Keep after it!

relaxn, you aren't kiddin. i'll get a quick shot of my elbow and knuckle and post em later this evening. elbow does eventually go down, knuckle hasn't went down in 5 years or more. haven't done much with baking soda. I mix it with vinegar and use as toothpaste, but thats bout it. sometimes cooking but not often. around my house, its primary use is to clean car batteries after they have grown years worth of acid fuzzies on em.

heres a shot of my right hand.
