Not sure if they have it other places, but here in Portland (OR), Safeway has whole chicken for $0.88 per/lb. Good time to smoke a few and throw a few into the freezer for later!

Nice catch! Off to the store I go! Paid $0.67 a pound for whole turkeys there a few months back...

Good find and thanks for posting the heads up.

We like to pull the meat and freeze for future use.

Lots of things to make from some smoked chicken meat.

Cinco de Mayo anyone?

Good luck and good smoking.

Thought those were free road game in Halualoa!

I actually had a bunch of chickens on my property today! I've never seen that before...

I always have turkeys and kalish and an occasional ringed neck pheasant and franklin.

It must be the "storm" we had today: it rain lightly for a couple of hours.

You butcher has your number? [emoji]128522[/emoji]
Ya dang straight she does!  Doesn't yours? I have a good butcher, I always send her some of whatever I make for her opinion, and she helps me when she can. When I started my first bacon, she told me she had a case of bellies taking up space she needed in her freezer, she said she'd hold 'em for me till I pulled 'em all, she'd slice 'em and package 'em after I made bacon, and I could have the bellies at .50/lb. LOL Turned out to be 7 bellies. She got one slab everytime I did a bellie.

Now she's most definately a friend. when she heads to her camp, she always asks for some of my sausage and andouille, and I oblige.

I only use my butcher to slaughter, hang and cut up one of my cows. Everything else I get from a regular store. That's actusl all he does is custom cut beef...

Btw, I stopped by my local Safeway and no sale here; $1.99 a lb. I can get the same bird at Costco for $1.29 a lb...

Back when I raised a few cows and pigs I was the same. I raised an extra pig for the butcher every year, but that butcher retired. AND I just got rid of the last chicken last year!!! I don't have to feed anything but me!!  Not in the rain, not in the cold, not in a hurricane or so I've been told.

Yeah it's no fun waking up at four am to milk the chickens... [emoji]128521[/emoji]
