Charcoal Basket..

Where did you guys find the expanded metal for your charcoal baskets? It looks like plaster lathe to me. I went to Lowe's yesterday and they looked at me like I have two heads..

You can find it in the nut and bolts section.  I'm sure you walked by the display of treaded rod and  short lengths of angle iron and aluminum stock.  Look just below the display and you will see an assortment of various sheet metal .  Thats were you will find it.

Yep what Brian said. My store sells it in 1'x2' sheets. It is wrapped in cardboard around the edges.

I ran into the same problem...Do these stores just hire people without giving training.

When I asked for expanded metal the reaction I got was , "What's That"?

Truth was, a young guy and another saw me looking around. They asked me if I needed help..
I asked them about expanded metal, they showed me the galv mesh for masonry. They said the chicken wire would be by the garden area.
Lesson learned. Look for someone that appears to know where they are working at..

I wish I could find it in that size.  I ended up buying it in the concrete section.  I ended up with a piece 24"x96"  Anyone near Bel Air, MD that needs some of this to make a basket, drop me a PM and I'll help you out.

I ran into the same problem at Home Depot.  I asked for expanded metal and he gave me the deer in the headlights look.  I described it to him so he took me to the screen door section and try to sell me a dog screen guard. He was adamant that this was the only thing like I was describing in the whole store.  He stated I've worked there for 10 years and I know what we have. I finally just said do you have sheet metal? yes. Please show me where it is. As soon as we got there, I grabbed the expanded metal and said thank you.  He was dumbfounded as he swore up and down they didn't have such a thing.

What size (diameter) is the charcoal grate? I want to come up with the flat size I will need. I am surprising my bud with ll the necessary parts and will need to fab this part at my work.
