Char-Griller water pan

I have a Char-Griller with the offset wood box. After reading Jeffs article on bacon wrapped ribs, I want to try them. In the instructions, he recommends to use a water pan if the smoker is equipped with one. Since my Char-Griller doesn't come with a water pan, Would I place place one under the meat on the drip tray?
