I frequently burn wood in my side fire box and have trouble getting my temps up in a reasonable time. Last smoke took me an hour before I could put ribs on. It seems that the fire was not getting enough air. The wood was well seasoned.

Has anyone added any holes for more ventilation? Suggestions? Leaving the SFB lid open just lets all my heat escape.

i put a couple bricks under my charcoal grate to promote air flow and i can also burn a little longer also......just an idea.

I use mainly charcoal, but I will pull the ash drawer open an inch or 2 to create more air flow. That will get your fire burning hotter quicker.

i like the idea about opening the ash drawer. mine would not get hotter than 250 ,however i am in the middle of a reverse flow on my gc duo pics to come.
