Boy howdy I'd be real happy sitting down to that plate John, Like! I've had my two little CI skillets for a couple of weeks now and forgot they were in the cupboard. I'd like to break them in with a recipe akin to yours, cheesy Alfredo pasta is something my wife would love, me too! RAY

Thanks Ray! Man sure does sound like a good way to break in those new cast iron pans to me. Might have to pop a few tops, fire up the kettle, and do a little CI cooking!

Looks Great John!!
Nice Job!!
Like.

I like what you did with the Burger Buns that were going stale soon.
I've been known to make little Bread Pizzas with mine occasionally.

Bear

Thanks John! If we have bread fixing to go stale I usually try to come up with good uses for it. Used hot dog buns, burger buns, and even flat bread before!

Thanks Joe! I was thinking if I boiled the noodles in chicken broth next time I might get even more of a flavor punch. What do you think?

I’m thinking it would work fine. I use chicken and veg broth when boiling rice and grits(use chicken) so I don’t see why not.

Give it a whirl, just don’t add salt then. Maybe even mix in a little butter or compound butter after the noodles are done and before assembling in the CI.

Great idea baking in CI! Try adding some cooked and Sliced Italian Sausage, sometime.
As a Newbie Chef, I was using up leftovers in a Restaurant to make a Family Meal for Staff. Put together, Chicken, Sausage, Alfredo Sauce, Pasta with Garlic, Oregano and Red Pepper Flakes. The crew loved it and the Executive Chef added it as a rotating Special to the menu...JJ

That looks great! Im gonna have to get off my butt and do a cast iron cook on the grill soon!

Thanks Travis! I would highly recommend doing some cast iron cooks on the grill. I am just getting my feet wet in it but everything I have done has been outstanding and easy to put together.

That is one fine looking meal there John!! Excellent job and it all looks to be a perfect balance of sauce, noodles, and chicken. I bet that bacon really went well with everything else. Brilliant combination of ingredients. Now ya may start seeing why I love cooking with CI on the grill so much :emoji_wink: Flavors are attained that you just won't get in an oven, but you already noted that.

Big like!!
Robert

Thanks Robert for the kinds words and guidance. The bacon idea was great and added a nice little touch! Unbelievable the difference in the oven and on the grill. And hell you know I don't need any excuse to cook on the grill! My wife probably wonders why we even have an oven anymore.

Wow, John that looks fantastic!

Love pasta and sauce bakes....thinkin' hard about some CI skillets.

BIG Like!

John

Thanks John! Man I would check into getting a couple. Its something different and fun to do and the results are hard to beat. Check out the lodge stuff on amazon its very reasonably priced as well.

That sounds great Jimmy might have to make some sort of rendition of that!

Pics look fine to me and so does the meal.

Point for sure
Chris

Hey VOL, great dish you created there! I will try CI cooking after seeing your results. I have never tried CI cooking and just had a couple of questions:
I assume you used cooked pasta?
What temperature should the grill be and is the cook idea to smoke the pasta?

Thanks, good job.

Thank you for the kind words! I did use cooked pasta. Paired really well with penne noodles I think is what they were. As far as temp goes I tried to keep it down best I could. Hovered around 350-375 for about 35 minutes but could easily have gone another 10 or so and been fine. The flavor you get off the grill and the crunchiness you get from the CI really sets off the dish. Just make sure your CI pan is oiled well so you don't get a stuck on mess afterwards.
