My new Woodwind should be here tomorrow, and I'm new to pellet grills.

For those of you that already have the Woodwind 24 with Wifi, what temps and smoke settings do you find work with the most commonly smoked meats? Butts, ribs, whole chicken, brisket, etc...

I want to ensure some good smoke flavor is added, but not too much that it is overly dominant, and a nice smoke ring.

I have also heard that pellets play a big part in the smoke imparted. What brands work best?

Thanks!

Scott

As to pellets first. There are a number of older posts you can read that deal with pellet preferences.
I have a Camp Chef Woodwind 24"WiFi and my favorite pellets are Camp Chef Competition Blend and Lumber Jack 100% Pecan.
There are also numerous posts regarding getting the most smoke. The clear answer about your Woodwind is that the lower temperature you use to grill or smoke the more smoke you will get.
As an example, the Woodwind smoke setting control does not even work at temperatures above 350 degrees. The maximum smoke is from the"Set Temp Low Smoke", 160 degrees and the "Set Temp High Smoke", 220 degrees.
There are thousands of opinions on how to smoke/grill and at what temps.
My preferences only:
The brisket you see above in my signature was cooked at 225 degrees/smoke 5; same temp for ribs/smoke 8 for first hour, then 3; Whole Chicken 400 degrees; obviously no smoke setting.
I am totally pleased with the Woodwind 24"WiF and can recommend it highly.
I've had Webers, Weber gas, Pit Barrel Cookers, Kamados etc and the Camp Chef is excellent.
BTW if you want to grill hotter get some GrillGrates made for your grill. At 400 degrees on the Woodwind thermometer my GrillGrates are at 525 degrees. You can cook with them on, or off the grill.

Ga Tom has you covered. Don't forget to do a high heat "burn in" to burn off any manufacturing oils. Congrats on the new toy!

Thanks guys! I'm hoping this does nearly as well as my WSM and can replace my charcoal grill and the gas grill as well.

I don't have Camp Chef but do have a Rec Tec. I do usually run a tube of pellets in my 590 for extra smoke. Burns approx. 2 hrs and that is plenty of extra.
Good luck with your new rig. I think you'll really enjoy it !
