I just have to share this...Cuz there is enough old timers here that can relate

The last few yeas have been rouph financially on us as everybody else...The last 6 months have been hell...Long story short...New motor in Barb's GEO Metro ragtop junk...Manufacturer won't stand behind it...their getting sued...Barb borrowed her looser kid my Beloved 95 Tracker...which he promptly rolled and totaled...and didn't bother to call and tell us for a week while it sat in impound gathering up imound fees...We went from a family of 30 to 50 mpg. cars to Having only My 454 powered 5 speed truck...Insurance covered my Tracker Thank god...Any way Barb's been taking the bus to work...Cost too much to drive the truck...While I've been car searching for 3-4 hours a day...She's extremely fussy when it comes to her wheels...

HERE'S WHY I'M BUSTIN AT THE SEAMS

Yesturday...We found Barb a car... Not just any car...But a 1964 Corvair Monza...With 98000 miles on it...AND the insurance on My Tracker was enough for us to drive away with it...$2500 plus a couple of pounds of my Jerky

Here's some pix

Wow, had one just like it!  Fantastic shape!  Does it have the dual carbs or a single carb?  Great find!  And, all the baloney that they were 'unsafe' - don't believe it.  Check the thickness of its metal to today's cars... like an Armor Truck!

Just finished watching a segment on the show "Top Gear" the other night. The Corvair was on it. The episode was called" The Un-Safest cars made".. It has a real bad reputation of spinning around when at highway speed. Just some FYI.. You can most likely look the show up on the web and watch it, its not the BBC version. Good luck and be safe...

All good points...

Opinions vary on the car

I used to use a 67 in auto cross  the stock class and a V-8 vega in the super mod class...The corvair was within 1 AND 8/10 of the vega without all the tire smoke

Barb drives sensable...She's in it for the cruz...Me I'M  more of the BIG BLOCK -CLOSE RATIO 5 SPEED KINDA PERSON

Like any REAR engined car...once they get loose your in trouble...Once they go loose there is no 4 wheel drift they are loose and hard to reign back in ...it takes a deft right foot...Good Judgement on the left foot and right hand....Quick wit on the wheel doesn't hurt...Can't just let off and counter steer like a rear wheel drive car

Ralf Nader killed this classic poorman's sports car...Most have never had the pleasure to drive one of these...I ran Topanga Canyon in one...It was a blast ...But Like I said when they get loose your in some seriously deep POO...Only less expensive than a 911 if you crash it...Or an LS-7 Doug nash 5 speed powered Camaro

Back then, I wouldn't have had one of them up my...tailpipes.

Now, that would be really cool to have!  And that one looks really cherry!

Good luck and good smoking.
