I did this awhile ago , but never did post it . After seeing the sub sandwich thread I figured I'd put it out there .
This is more about the finish of the sandwich than it is about the sandwich itself . I got this from an episode of Good Eats / Alton Brown .
Wrapping in plastic after the sandwich is made .
Bread can be what ever . This was home made .

Rip in 2

Scoop out some of the middle .

Stack the meats . Your choice .

cheese , then repeat .

Lettuce , tomato and some Zia's dressing .

Mayo goes on both halves of the bread so it helps repel water and the bread doesn't get soggy .
I like black pepper on the mayo .

Close it up .

OK this is the part I wanted to show . This really makes a difference in the sandwich .
Layout a piece of plastic wrap . Put the sandwich on it so you have enough on one end to
fold over the top .
20210504_100557.jpg
I'm right handed , so I grab the far end of the plastic with my left hand and hold it tight .
I grab the sandwich with my right hand , pull it tight and roll .

Keep doing this until it's all rolled up . I do mine pretty tight .

1 Pound of stuff on this one .
20210504_100831.jpg

Let it sit at least a couple hours . I like to do overnight . The longer the better .
Then slice with the wrap in place .

This is a must do in my opinion . Really changes the whole thing .

Absolutely. We make homemade subs on a regular basis. There's something about the wrap that makes a big difference. Even better once toasted after being unwrapped.
Yes it does . Once you do it , it's hard not to . Just not the same .
I'll do the same , but use foil and put it in the oven .

Sandwich looks great Chop! Never heard of this before. You can bet I'm trying it soon!
I'm also a newly converted Duke's fan. It is being stocked regularly here now. Much better the Hellmann's.
I know mayo is a highly contested topic around here but congrats on switching to the best mayo out there lol

Great sandwich!
Any wrapping helps the maturing of the sandwich. Ever notice all shops tightly wrap your meal in paper to give it a chance to take in all the flavors?

My wife was a diehard Best or Helmann's (lived on both sides of the Rockies) user until the local grocer started stocking Dukes. I said this is what I used from, well before her.
After first taste she wants no other mayo to pass her lips.
It makes a better famous whip mayo flavor by adding a tsp of sugar per cup, too

Exactly . In the episode of Good Eats on sandwiches he covers all the angles of the why .
It certainly makes a difference .
It also does something to the bread I think .

Looks good thanks for sharing. I can't do sandwiches that sit especially with mayo or mustard or sauces on em gets too soggy and the veggies get all limp
