And whatever ya choose...DON'T skimp on the rub. Use a mustard slather to help hold more and help "barq' production.

I mix my own and I am with Rich on the mustard. Oh well, sometimes I use worchestershire. I am mixing up 10 lbs of rub tomorrow, by the way.

yup mix mine also-for all my meats-have spices in my cabinet most people never heard of-astrays.com might help u.search for rubs, and ya don't forget the yellow musturd.

This is my favorite rub.
Family LOVES it.
Me too!

2 tablespoons smoky paprika
2 tablespoons kosher salt
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon celery salt

u da v-man, thats pretty much the basic rub.thanks for his answer.

Personally I think brisket says one seasoning. You can add other things but I think there is one that should stand out. This is what I usually do:

Cracked Black Pepper
Little bit of onion powder
Cracked Black Pepper
Little bit of Garlic Salt
Cracked Black Pepper
sometimes I add a little brown sugar and red pepper
Oh, and....
Cracked Black Pepper

I start with a mustard slather and then add the pepper to the top.

How spicy is the rub? I like it spicy but the wife can not eat it? I am looking for a little kick on my brisket.
