The problem is that they do not have to be forced to work for the wage they are paid. They are standing in line for the "good jobs" that pay 3 - 4 dollars a day.

Before China everyone was all worked up over Bangaladesh, and before that Japan and before that .......

. As income rises in that country they will no longer work for the wages offered. Then corporate America will find another 3rd world country to fill our needs.

My favorite is when I buy plumbing fixtures by the company "American Standard", it says on the box "Hecho in Mexico"

It's a global economy and we just have to get used to it.

Oh, and Smokey Oky, if I remember right you are an agricultural chemical salesman. The largest one in the deep south is Helena Chemical which is owned entirely by Japanese.

Unlike most forums, the SMF tends to stay away from serious topics like politics, religion, etc. not because the people don't have an opinion or don't care but because this is our place to relax and "get away" from it all for a bit.

It is not hiding our heads from the truth, just finding some tranquility while we still can.

Most folks here have high morals and make great decisions when it comes to politics and the things that are truly "American" ideals.

I am not saying these topics are not allowed... what I am saying is that it is getting very close to creating chaos and THAT is what is not allowed here.

I understand having opinions and needing an outlet to discuss those opinions.. there are forums especially for that and that would be the place to do it.

Most forums encourage and thrive on contention.. here we just thrive on being super nice and friendly and it is a fresh breath of air to all who enter.

Let's move it back to smoking meat now... and if you need to make a stand against Walmart or China then do that but do it nicely while your brisket is becoming something beautiful in that smoker of yours

No offence should be taken... this is just a gentle nudge from the administrator.. nothing more

Oops.. wrong smilie!

Here.. try this one

Topics like this are a VERY rare occasion around here... we are hardcore smokers passionate about the thin blue smoke and leave the politics to other folks who have nothing better to do

Well put Jeff. I thought walmart stopped carring smokers or wood chips when I first read this thread.. Come to find out, it was a political/economical debate I just moved on till I saw your reply...

NOW ON WITH THE SMOKE!!!!

To some people...it makes a big difference if they spend an extra $20 on groceries each week. To others, its a drop in the bucket. I certainly agree that we should boost small businesses and shop elsewhere when possible, BUT I refuse to condemn folks for getting the most they can for their money. It's not greed, so much as survival for many.

Not sure how Target fares up there with the mega-stores, but their groceries are not much more than Wal-Mart (and in many instances cheaper), and their produce and products in general are MUCH better quality. (Probably still made in China, huh?)

As a busy mother, and chief cook and frugal shopper, convenience and savings matter to me.

Are we going to boycott every store that imports from other countries? Pier 1 Imports is one of my favorite stores....

I suppose I better hush before you cancel our weekend plans...

<-----I do NOT look good in a helmet....

But...I would just say (my FINAL note...I PROMISE...[to try])...that many things are easier said than done. Especially if a family is on a tight budget. Thank goodness we have the liberty of being choosy about where we put our money, but some folks don't have that liberty. Not really. In some places, I think the damage has already been done, and there simply isn't anyplace else to shop (within reasonable distance or budget), other than Wal-Mart. So for folks who live in a small town where Wal-Mart is the only grocery store or clothing store, "boycotting" Wal-Mart isn't even a choice.

Unless they grow their own produce. Well, there's an idea, I guess.

It isn't so simple as "boycott Wal-Mart." There are lots of other intertwined issues to consider. And I'm not sure SMF is the place to consider them...OKAY, I'M LEAVING NOW, JEFF...RIGHT NOW....I LOOOVEEEEE you.

It's weird...but warnings like these make me want to be the little girl...

...for when she was good, she was very, very good, but when she was bad...she was....

HORRID!!!!!!

I agree Jeff, but while I too am a Walmart boycotter, I can't believe how much emotion and vitriol was aroused by what should have been a rather benign topic.

Likewise, and what amazes me even further is the fact that people act as if they're forced to read these posts. With all due respect, if the thread is titled "Boycott WalMart" and you know the subject holds no interest for you...DONT READ IT!!! Furthermore, if the post holds no interest for you and yet you insist upon reading it, don't post in it! Move on!
