So I just bought this used Smoking Brothers Pellet grill for a steal. I called their customer service and it is approximately 6-12 years old based on the info I had at the time.

Question, The lid opens and closes but it seems there is a gap that is pretty even across the whole front. What gasket should I get to help get a better seal? And should the gasket go on the lid or along the smoker?

I am going to do the flashlight test tonight so I can see if there are any other gaps. Here are some pics. I think it is in pretty darn good condition for the age.

I think there’s a 4 minute lapse between the should I post and I just did it post. Congratulations. Hope it’s all good.
Lava lock the lid, you would have a bit of a problem dripping grease or water or whatever on the lava lock if it’s on the lid.

I would check with Smoking Bros before doing anything. It looks like that smoker is without a stack/chimney, like my MAK. That gap may be there by design, and acts as a means for venting.

Edit to add: Now I see the stack in the rear. I'd still check with them and see if it's supposed to have that gap.

Nice find. I would not worry about the gasket just yet. Use it a few times. If you notice it leaking a lot of smoke, then maybe...but not a must do 1st thing.

I never thought of that. I noticed at the hinges that it was off so I figured I would take them off and it would fix the gap. I readjusted them but the gap is still there, better, but still there. I will give them a call and see what they say. Thanks for the clue!

Check with Smoking Bros!

Some folks thought similar thoughts on smoke "leaking" out the under the lid on Rec Teqs. They do not recommend sealing it.

HI! GLAD YOU GOT WHAT YOU NEED!
For what its worth?
My Grilla Chimp, has a silicon strip on the lid itself that was installed.
I still get a small amount of grease dripping, not a lot to worry about?
Basically can be swiped with a paper towel.
My concern for adding a seal is you will create another smoke leak, due to breaking the existing seal?
I have a coal stove for heating my home.
It has a rope like seal around the door, but has a lock to compress to seal it !
Here? the hatch just sits on the base unit?
You have 2 choices?
Add to the unit
Add to the door?
My idea is the door be better due to gravity keeping it sealed?
If you add a rope like seal to the unit? : Not sure if it will open up more leaks? like near the hinge ?
This is just my common sense idea?
Yeah? I might be wrong ? IDK?
