I have a new fridge smoker build with a brinkman element and a allied control that is working very well. I would like to take the next step and learn cold smoking. Originally I was going to use small metal garbage can with a hot plate for smoke box??? I am willing to spend the time and money for the best option. Please help!!

The Best option is an AMNPS Smoke Generator...http://www.amazenproducts.com  This little gem is indestructible and will burn a variety of pellet or dust flavors providing up to 10 hours of smoke either hot or cold...JJ

Cold smoking is generally done from 50-70 degrees.... Cure is required for extended cold smokes to keep the meat safe to eat....  You don't need much in the way of heat to cold smoke..   Dave

What Is the best way To connect/ mount the aps to my fridge smoker?

No connection needed. You just place it inside, somewhere near the bottom of the smoker where it will get some oxygen from a vent, light it, wait 10 minutes, and then gently blow out the flame and close the door. Voila! You're cold smoking.

The only issue you may find is the AMNPS needs a source of Air to burn. If there is little to no venting near the bottom of the smoke box the AMNPS will go out. Too much Air and the AMNPS will burn too fast and go through a full load in 5 hours, half what is standard. An adjustable fresh air vent close to a good place to put the AMNPS would be perfect, but at least a pair of 1/2" holes should get you by...JJ

Thanks guys, I have a 4" vent I can control pretty well near the bottom of my smoker. This should work great. I can't wait, I have a deer and a couple briskits to work on right away!!

OH Yeah! You are going to have no problems with the AMNPS and will love it as much as we do. Just be sure to read and follow the directions, they are simple but there are tidbits of importance there that can save some aggravation...JJ
