Mckenzie natural casing beef and pork here for local flair. National - I buy Hebrew National.

To late Bill...… they did change the recipe and they now suck.

I'm a big fan of the Zweigles whites, for the same reason the writer put them down, a nice mild spice blend.
Another good store bought one is Dietz & Watson's Black forest bratwurst. I get them at Price chopper.

Wow. just had some before posting this thread. in fact, that's why I posted it.

they tasted as good as ever to me.

where are you located? wonder if just the name brand went National, no recipe/quality control?

I'm north of Syracuse Bill, about 6-8 miles from the plant. I should have clarified that they changed the snappy grillers recipe .They now use less egg white and added citrus fiber.
The franks texture seem different to me now, but the ingredients look the same still.

Hello neighbor. Sandy Creek/Pulaski area.

Somewhat surprised to see others feel Nathan's too salty and skinny. I agree and like salty stuff. As of late, I like the wave of all beef dogs and prefer Ballparks. The cheaper the dog the more I rip it on the grill. Not really a hot dog at all but easily my favorite. https://www.tonypacko.com/history.php

I don't know of any "gourmet" available, around here and so settle for name brands.

Whatever the brand, I have been "spiral cutting" my dogs, for the last 8 years or so, and cook / smoke them at "low-ish" heat with hickory.

In my opinion it improves any dog I throw on the smoker.

Oh and just to throw some gas on the fire...…..I enjoy a beef hotdog with katsup. There I said it.

My favorite store bought Hot Dogs have been the ones I used to get at any Wawa store in SouthEast PA & most of New Jersey.
They are 1/4 pound All Beef, and when I worked for Bear Jr, Wawa was the only place I ever stopped for lunch, when I was in that area. They were "Berks" Dogs & they were awesome.
Most Wawas had them already made up, and were keeping warm in a glass show case.
All I had to do was grab 2, put the Mustard on, pay & back on the road.
Those stops were even quicker than McDonald's or Burger King!!

Used to have "Frank's Frank's " stand on Army bases, located in the PX. Their Chili Dogs were the best!

Unfortunately they are no more.

At the Fort Drum Mini-PXs, you can grab 2 large Oscar Mayers for 3 bucks!.

Quick lunch sometimes!

The only PX I ever got food from was at Ft Bragg, and all I did was sneak down there for a couple Cheeseburgers, because I couldn't survive on the small amount of food they gave you in our Basic Training Mess Hall !!!

hey john, i hear conecuh now makes hot dogs? would love to try those
O'rly, I've never seen them on a shelf?
Conecuh is probably the most popular regional sausage brand down here, and we're only 90 miles from the production plant.
I love driving by it twice a week, the smell is incredibly good.

Looked them up, sure enough there they are.
I'm gonna have to find some.
Push comes to shove I just stop at the plant, they've a retail storefront for the public.

Hotdogs, none in particular.
Now other sausages, hell yeah.
