That’s the problem with online calculators. I just do the math, it’s really pretty easy with just the calculator on your phone.

Get your meat weight converted to grams by multiplying pounds by 454 this will convert meat weight to grams.
Then decide what you want for salt percentage say 1.5% for 1000 grams of meat

1000 x .015= 15g

Do the same for sugar

When you calculate for cure 1 you multiply meat weight by .0025 this will give you .25% cure 1 or 156ppm

Meat weight 1000 grams,
1000 x .0025= 2.5g cure #1.

Its pretty straight forward.

I do my own math as well with the calc on my phone or on a PC. A piece of paper and a pencil would also work fine, if it became necessary.

The power of grams and kilograms. 1000 grams (2.2 pounds) the math is stupid easy. 2000 or 3000 g

1 Kg is 1000 grams , one liter is 1000 grams. This system is crazy simple.

Since the diggingdogfarm cure calculator is no longer available, what is (are) the best replacement calculator(s)?
I mostly do my own math using the metric measurements as other have suggested.

Here is a couple links to Greg Blonder of another forum fame.

I never used the digging dog formula so cannot say if it is a 1 to 1 calculator.

Weight your meat in kg then every other ingredient weigh in grams… if it displayed as a percentage move the decimal to the right .
Makes life very simple

I made an excel sheet and print out my measurements. I do have a bookmark to diggindog if I ever need it. Once you know your meat weight in grams it's really just as simple to open the calculator on my magical pocket computer and communication device.

BUT - I like having everything printed out and in front of me.

I do my calcs for the meat weight on the phone or PC calculator and write the amounts of each ingredient on a for real note pad with a pen. Then take said paper and weigh everything out.

Well, I can't honestly deny that! Lol
Pen and paper son, that’s how it’s done. learn it, it’s not difficult. Then in the event of a computer crash or horrific weather event causing loss of everything, you still know how and what to do. Just makes sense to me. I made both my boys learn to drive a stick when they were young. They will never forget and can always drive something other than an automatic.

Old fart ingredient spreadsheet for a piece of belly:

Being able to do it without an online thing, or even a calculator is a wise thing.

I don't disagree but I have a 16 year old. They don't learn the math like we did. We can't tell everyone to do it on paper when they don't have the ability to. I fought common core math with his teacher years ago and I won. The teacher said well as long as he gets the right answers in the test.

We can assume everyone can do math on paper anymore.

Rant over. Sorry everybody
