Beginner, first time meatloaf question.

I got my first smoker recently, an MES 35b. After pre seasoning and doing some research, I have decided to start with a meatloaf. I am going to use my wife's recipe, sub the ketchup for bbq sauce, and wrap in bacon. From my research it seems that setting my temp to 275 and smoking for 3 to 4 hours is what my plan is. With my smoker I was given 2 bags of wood chips, Jack Daniels Tennessee oak barrel, and mesquite. I'm not sure which one to use, andly advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
 
Sorry I can't comment on either of the wood chips since I've haven't used either, but you'll be more then pleased with the meatloaf. I use hickory myself for most if not all beef and pork.

I would use the JD with a few sprinkles of the mesquite (which is strong).
 
The mesquite is a strong unique taste. It happens to be one of my favorites. A lot of people only like it with large cuts of beef like brisket because it can handle the flavor without overpowering the flavor of the meat.

With that being said, I don't use mesquite on anything that's not red meat. I don't have experience with the meatloaf, but I think you'll be more than happy with the oak. Oak is my favorite all around wood.
 
Unless you and your wife grew up eating Mesquite smoked meat, use the MUCH more mild JD Oak Barrel chips. Mesquite is very strong and pungent. Most folks outside of TX and the surrounding states find it too strong. Oak is a mild flavored wood. It's a bit nutty and earthy. A nice flavor similar in intensity to Fruit Wood...JJ
 
Apple is a good "all around" for most meats/ poultry when you need to purchase.
