I love cooking whole chickens. My favorite way to cook them is to set them up on a beer can chicken rack. I think it allows the chicken to cook very evenly. One thing I never do is waste a good beer by putting it inside the chicken!

I bought a Char Griller Akorn a couple weeks ago and I've been pleased with what I've cooked on it so far. I fired it up this morning and dialed it in about 350 degrees with hardwood lump charcoal and a few chunks of apple wood.

Didn't do anything special with the chicken. Just brined for a few hours in a simple chicken brine and rubbed down with Oakridge Secret Weapon Chicken Rub.

Onto the Akorn at 350.

After 1 hour and 10 minutes, the breast hit 165 IT.

It turned out super moist and had great flavor. It was my first time using that rub, and it sure won't be my last!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Great job on the chicken!

I too like to use a beer can chicken holder.  If I use anything, I use ginger ale.  Beer has better uses.

Thanks! Yes, I prefer to drink the beer while lounging around in the garage while my cooker does the work!

I had read mixed reviews on the Akorn but couldn't pass up the Memorial Day sale price at Lowes. It holds temp almost as good as my higher end cooker.

Chicken looks great! I fully agree with "Beer has better uses"! I prefer to spatch but when I do a beer can chicken it's just the stand and no can.
