I've been a lurker of SMF off and on for a while, and really like how the site is presented, maintained, and the helpful input from the members.
A year ago we moved from Indiana to Texas. Unfortunately, we had so much stuff my old el cheapo vertical smoker, Weber charcoal grill, and Weber gas grill had to be left behind (gave away to neighbors). Blasphemy, I know! lol But I was thinking this is a great opportunity to upgrade with less "convincing" (begging, pleading, sneaking around) the wife. I just didn't think it would take a whole year to get this done!
In the meantime, I've been using (resenting, more like it) an el cheapo gas grill/charcoal grill/offset smoker to get me by. It's horrible, so bad I can't hardly stand to use it even after doing modifications to improve it. FW to my joining today. Thanks to research on this forum, I will soon have a 18.5 WSM on the patio and intend to try and burn it up over the next decade or so. :sausage: I also have the Weber Geneses 300 series on my mind. I got 13 years out of my entry level Spirit 210 (I think that's todays equivalent model) and it had at least 5-10 more years in it when we left it behind.
I consider myself an advanced novice in terms of skill/knowledge of smoking/grilling. Nowhere near competition ready, but can turn out some tasty que (IMO). My next step/goal is to experiment with making my own rubs/seasonings.
Anyway, if you've made it through this rambling, I want to say "thank you" to all on this site for providing such great info, and I look forward to learning and improving my skills.
