Anybody else notice a decline in Bear Mountain pellets quality?
They use to be in my top three brands?

Used a fresh bag this week and noticed a lot of dust in the bag, more than my last bag

I only tried one bag of BM. The pellets left way too much ash vs other brands. I'm pretty much settled in with Lumberjack these days.

Mine are a little dusty but got a GREAT deal on them TSC.

They are much lighter in color than they use to be. As y'all have posted much more dust in the bag. I think they have recently beeen bought out.

I read somewhere that they got bought out by Lignetics (or something like that name). I bet they are blending more oak into the batches. Hence, lighter color.

With all these pellet companies getting bought out, you have know idea what you`re buying anymore. Makes me think i may just go back to my stick burners. I have always cut and split my own hardwoods for my stick burners. I knew exactly what i was burning. And the meats always tasted far better. Easy bake ovens (pellet smokers & grills) are convenient, that`s the only good thing about them.

Yep, Bear Mt was bought out by Lignetics. Headquartered in Louisville, Colorado, Lignetics is the largest manufacturer of residential wood pellets in the United States. You can bet there is an MBA sitting behind a desk figuring out ways to cut costs, thus quality.

Sad to hear. BM always used alder in their blends, which was fine when I was using the straight alder to smoke salmon. Not sure what else they might be using now. I'm using their Red White & BBQ blend, which is hickory and oak, right now on a pork butt.

I use to work in production factories, you are right on the money. Always some young buck in the office trying to make a name for himself by showing the company how much he can save them by cutting something out of the process, or by adding cheaper lesser quality of materials into the build. It will always bite them right in thee ass at the end of the day. That young buck will find another job when he becomes useless to them. Rinse & repeat.
