4 days and 8 BBQ places, all within 60 miles of Austin, Texas.
Tuesday: Kreuz Market in Lockhart. Wednesday: Louie Mueller's in Taylor and Southside Market in Elgin. Thursday: Smitty's Market and Original Black's, both in Lockhart. Friday: City Market in Lulling and Salt Lick in Driftwood. Saturday: Franklin's in Austin.
Had brisket and sausage at each place. Sausage was either all beef or mixture beef/pork. For sides we had either beef rib, smoked turkey, pork chop, or spare ribs. Also sampled some veggies at one time or another.

Pictures are representative and in no particular order.

Wow! What a great trip! I'd eat at any of those places.
Although Chilo, at City Market didn't look too pleased with having his picture taken.

I asked him before i took it. I think that's his standard pose. Those guys are all old school.

City Market does not have a website (but has facebook page), cash only. If you search online you can find Luling City Market, a BBQ joint in Houston since 1980's, but no relation.

I love your idea of "sides"...more meat! :D

Already thinking about my next tour, maybe expanding to include different regions of Texas. Have a hankering for some mesquite smoke like West Texas and South Texas. But that would be a lot of driving.

Brisket and sausage we had at every place, but tried a few speciality items when they wee available.

That would be a great trip!
Had a lot of fun. Stayed at a vrbo south of Austin so we could easily hop on the highways.

Why not eat at all of them? We did.

Wow! I’m jealous!
You can do it. Although we did our own tour, there are organized tours out of Austin that will take you to various places.

Awesome! Did you try the specialty shoulder clod at Kreuz?
No. We were there on Tuesday. Most places only have their specialty items on weekends.

Hope you had the pork chop at Kreuz. Best pork chop I've ever eaten! I wouldn't call it a side though.
No. We had a pork chop down the street at Smitty's Market though. I think we had some turkey at Kreuz. My son likes to smoke turkey breasts so he wanted to compare.

I am so very, very jealous! I’d love to have a chance to do that.
I had talked about it for a couple of years. You just gotta go.

Bummer!! You were in Lockhart, but you didn't try BarbsBQ? GOD, I love that place! They have what they call Molotov Ribs -- to die for!
Yea, we missed that one. They're only open on weekends and i was flying out on Saturday.
