Back Woods Fat Boy

I have a Back Woods Fat Boy that I have 2 questions.
1 What do you use to clean the smoke chamber and water pan (built in / not removable)?
2 Can you run a backwoods dry?

I use a plastic putty knife to scrape excessive grease out of there then burn a hot fire to get the rest done.

Not sure on that smoker about running dry but ones that I have had with water pans I have run dry and its ok.
