Was out today with my wife. Had some Chatham Artillery punch.

WOOOOYAAAA

Chatham Artillery Punch (Savannah, GA)

Makes a boat load. You could cut this down for smaller batches.

2 qts maraschino cherries
1 1/2 gallons of catawaba wine
1 1/2 gallons of strong tea
2 1/2 lbs brown sugar
1 1/2 qts orange juice
1 1/2 qts lemon juice
1/2 gallon rum
1 qt gin
1 qt brandy
1/2 pint benedictine
1 1/2 qts rye whiskey

Mix all together and serve 36-48 hours after mixing. Add 1 case of champagne (opt)

Can I run my car on that?  Minus the cherries of course.

The Chatham Artillery is the oldest military organization on record in Georgia. Organized on May 1, 1786, their first official duty was to pay tribute at the funeral of General Nathaniel Greene.

When George Washington visited Savannah on May 12, 1791 the Chatham Artilley greeted him with a volly of 26 discharges from their field artillery. The washington guns were fired to salute President James Monroe when he visited Savannah in May 1819 for the launching of the S.S. Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic. These events were celebrated with Artillery Punch.   Its said that officers snuck into the brew barrels and added different spirits one by one. This is how the Punch grew its name.

Now that's cool.  A great sounding drink, and it has a good history and tradition behind it.  That's a real drink.  I have to figure out the smaller quantity amounts and make this one or else be compelled to drink gallons of it (can't waste it can we).

Beats the heck out of the fruity stuff with a little umbrella.
