When I first met my wife 23 years ago in Hawaii it was a must we would visit her family on the East Coast regularly, Hahaha!! Her mom always rented a beach house in the Outer Banks for a week. This is the first time I saw a grill like this. I was put to task to cook our family meal every year and this type of grill is what I had to work with. Growing up camping and cooking over what ever was available here I took to this very well.
I’m sure many of you have seen this style grill and used them. After about the third year there I started hunting one down. I found one on line. It was a bit smaller than what I was used there but that was fine. I mounted it in a bucket in cement so it could be portable. Have used it many times on camping trips even though it is a bit heavy
. Anyways it’s been a while since I have used it and thought I would clean it up and fire it up for a couple of Chuck Eye steaks. Sorry for the trip down memory lane but I have loved cooking on this type of grill for very important people in my life!!
I had to wire wheel the grates to get rid of some rust but all in all it’s still in great shape! I can’t remember the name of this and I hope someone here knows what is. Kind of like a poor man’s Santa Maria as I can raise and lower the grate a bit
. Started with a chimney of lump and threw on some Kiawe splits!
Only one home tonight so it was a simple Steak dinner with a Bubbies fermented pickle
. Happy I cleaned that grill up and used it. Very fun to cook on that!!
