Any I'm looking for a source for the MAK 2 Star General ceramic ignitor

Some credit card companies will issue you a one time use number for situations like this.
Virtual credit cards also. Use as many times as you want then delete, I will use them when pay services like PayPal aren't accepted.

Now thats a great observation. Considering there are many on this forum who have the MAK grill and are facing or perhaps will later have this same problem getting a group buy going and fixing what needs fixin or stocking up on a spare part like an ignitor that will fail at some point as a spare. I'd take a couple myself at this point.
100 units = $950 + $180 tooling/mold charge with a 35 day lead time. It would take a fair number of MAK users to make that palatable, i.e. enough buyers to cover the initial purchase.

Still no response to the email sent to Grill Parts America the other day, even though their web site says they respond within 4 hours generally or within 24 hours. Tried to call, and the message said "this mailbox is full, and cannot accept new messages". So, I'm not holding my breath. Will give the benefit of the doubt, since they are in the Chicago area; maybe they're slammed from the recent Windy City Smokeout event.

Could be a good return on your investment! Buy them for $ 10 plus shipping costs... sell on the lower end of price mentioned earlier around $45. Would maybe take some time though

Well I guess that idea doesn't want to float in this pool of water. Thanks

I'm not giving up but I think I see the writing on the wall. Thus I think I'll start looking for a replacement that fits my families needs. In the mean time what do I do with the MAK if I can't fix it? One thought was to remove all working parts and sell them then use the carcass for cold smoker ( but I already have two small dedicated smokers ). Just junk the whole mess and move on. Or ask here for ideas on what you would do with a broken grill and can't fix it. Dang this isn"t that easy as we really hoped to get many more years of service from the MAK.I really appreciate all the feedback on sourcing an ignitor. This forum is top of the heap IMHO.

My ignitor has failed and didn't know that MAK Grills had closed down. I'm hoping someone here may know of a source to turn to for replacement of the ignitor. Why OH why did the ignitor need to be proprietary? A meaningful thank you to anyone that can point me in the right direction.
FYI MAK

What about buying a new firepot/igniter combo that is readily available and retro it into your MAK?

Interesting thought. I've look at several but was simply looking for a direct replacement. I do some research and see what might work. Thanks

Don't give up so easy . and no , don't sell it for parts . Let the frustration go away then decide .
If nothing else get a Weber kettle for now .

I'm not sure of the internal configuration of a Mak , but most pellet grills you can start without the igniter .
Get some pellets burning in the pot , put it back together , and start it up .
Might need to unplug the igniter to do that .
Like I said though , not sure how the Maks work .

The part is out there somewhere . Has to be .

Well I guess that idea doesn't want to float in this pool of water.
If that ignighter is a proven part that works , it's a no brainer to buy the lot and sell off what you don't want to keep .
The real problem with that to me would be a warrenty after individual sale .
At some point this problem fixes itself .

I think the aftermarket will eventually fill the need. The MAK closure is still pretty new. I'll just keep searching for a replacement igniter, as the rest of the grill is too physically bomb proof to give up on. I have the luxury of still having a functioning one while the search continues. Lighting the fire pot manually isn't all that bad, especially if you purge the auger tube after a cook, and need to jog the auger until pellets make it to the pot before igniting.

My thoughts as well . I saw an auction for Mak Metals selling off equipment , but didn't see any parts being auctioned off . I did see some parts being bought by employees , but just something I read .
The owners could be looking for a way forward , and seem pretty silent for now .
Be interesting to see what comes of it .
