I got my new MES 40 all set up and got the AMNPS from Todd. I plan to do my first smoke Friday or Saturday. Just wondering how many pellets to put in the AMNPS for about a 4hr smoke. One line?

It all depends on temps and air flow. In mine it usually takes about a row and a half. It's best to add more than you expect to need. You can rake away the burning pellets when you are done and save the unburned  ones.

If properly filled and with the proper venting in the MES you should average 2 hours per row

Thanks for the tips. I'll try half full to start with. I think I'll do country style ribs so will probably run about 250 or so. Looking forward to some good smoke flavor without being overwhelming, and it sounds like the AMNPS is just the ticket.

I get 2 hours minimum from one row, and that's with lots of airflow. Once the pellets get burning real good, I like to push the chip dumper all the way in to reduce airflow so the pellets burn a little longer. But some wood types burn longer than others, you just have to experiment and see what works best for you.

This is what I found works best as well...1st Hour Chip loader out 1.5" then it gets pushed in, 4 hours with PMC has been taking just shy of 1.5 Rows...JJ
