All Beef Weiners - collagen casings?

I wanted to try making some weiners this weekend but wanted to ask if anyone has ever tried using collagen casings for weiners?  I make sticks all the time and have found that they don't link very well at all.  Could I just tie the ends of each weiner?

Yeah you'll need to tie them, but if you can get your hands on natural sheep casings you'll be a lot happier.

Commercial wieners(note wieners come from Vienna, weiners come from Napa Valley) are stuffed in non edible casings and are stripped after cooking. Knuckers or knockers are stuffed in animal casings for "bite".

Wiener (often spelled as weiner in English) comes from the name Wien, the Austrian name for the city English speakers call Vienna. Essentially there is no difference between hot dogs, weiners or franks, although some say that weiners may be slightly shorter.

So maybe blueBombersfan's weiner would be a bit shorter than tiggeregis's if we compared them :-) Moot point unless tigerregis was really trying to make this thread some type of a contest :-)

Instead of traveling to Napa to make a few future weiners with the cute Napa ladies, I also was thinking of making some a-mase-n winning wieners/wieners next month, and I would be luckey to find a sheep locally let alone sheep casings .. Is just the extra tying the only problem with collagen?

I haven't had any luck finding some, and they can't be shipped into Canada.

Yeah Ahron.. I just started making wieners and already eveyone is talking about the snap in the dog how they love it........ Get the naturals.........

I haven't had any luck finding some, and they can't be shipped into Canada.

Have you tried Canada Compound at 900 Bradford (between Polo Park and the airport)? They supply commercial operations but are happy to help someone who walks in for casings, spices and all sorts of supplies. I am more than certain that they would have all the casings you would ever need to make some franks. I have bought my supplies from them almost exclusively over the years.

I actually was going to try calling them tomorrow.  I called before for cure but it only came in large quantities.
