Air tires on trailer and firebox

how close is to close to have my tires on my trailer from firebox right now I have it setup with two inches of gap between inside of tire and outside wall of firebox is this enough?

I am curious about this as well. However, that seems really close. Maybe you could do a double layer fender?

I was thinking of putting a 1/4” plate between them as a buffer

Well on one i used we did have to weld on a plate between fire box and tires. With out it it blew a tire and let me tell you all were diving for cover.... course after wards we had a good chuckle that is after we clean our pants
