well...

...this week was my 5-yr anniversary with the company that i work for.  i wasn't expecting much, maybe a card, maybe a "ata boy", but i got something way sweeter than that.

in the packet with my 5-yr certificate there was a booklet that had my name on it and said pick a gift.  scrolling through the gifts there were watches, bracelets, electronic gadgets, then this....

i couldn't believe my eyes...they were offering to give me a free brinkmann "gourmet" charcoal smoker and grill!

guess which gift i chose?!?  lol...

should be here in about a month.  ...now i am just trying to track down my 14k gold lapel pin that was supposedly delivered to the corporate office last month!  :(

i'll let you know when it gets here...wish it was already here...got a packer going on ol' sam tonight; i could use the extra space of the new gift to get some ribs going too.

, and I thought at 5yrs., one would get like a free dinner at McDonalds. Nice Boss!
heheeh...i was pleasantly surprised to say the least.  i was expecting a card, but to be able to pick a present reminded me of back in little league.  ...i guess my boss thinks i sold enough chocolates over the last 5 years.

lol...

whoa...

...it just arrived!!!

i didn't think it was going to be until later this month.  feels like christmas this morning.

i'll take pictures when she's all together.

all toghether...

...she's different than my other one, fo sho.

no dampners at the bottom and no stack on top...almost looks like the smoke is allowed to "escape" through the outter diameter of the top/body joins.  this'll be fun.

Had the sparky version for years. My advise make a charcoal basket and get a temp probe at least 2 inch the one that come with it. Is unreliable. Have fun with your new toy.:yahoo:

I cooked on a Gourmet for  a  couple  of years, and had to modify it quite a bit to  get good results.  The 3 main problems are (1) ashes build up and smother the fire, (2) no reliable thermometer, and (3) no way to control airflow (and thus  temperatures).  The lack of a top  vent isn't a problem, the  gap around the lid serves as a vent (as it was designed).  The other problems can be improved with a charcoal basket, or a grate mounted above the bottom of the charcoal pan so ashes can fall through; a real thermometer (a candy/deep fry thermometer through a hole in the side worked for me); and some kind of adjustable sliding cover over the hole in the bottom.  You can  see my amateurish attempts at http://community.webshots.com/album/85230444qwxKGC

After all that, the Gourmet would hold a steady temperature and I could get maybe 6 hours of cooking without having to refuel,  which was generally enough for ribs,  but a butt would require refueling about halfway through.

The bbq I cooked on the Gourmet was as good as what I cook now, it just took  a little more work and attention.
