I'm planning to buy these mods for the WSM 22 from Cajun Bandit:

This is a combination of our top three selling products. Everything You need to upgrade your 22.5 in Weber Smokey Mountain. The Bundle Includes 1 22.5 Stainless Steel Replacement Door, 1 22.5 inch stainless steel high air flow coal ring and a pair of 1/4 inch removable sensor grommets. Upgrade to 3/8" grommets for $1 (1/4" grommets aren't compatible with Maverick ET 732)

I'm not buying the Maverick thermometer though. I'm going to buy the Thermoworks Smoke. What size grommets do I need with this thermometer? I'm a total newbie here buying a smoker for my hubby for Christmas.

Do you drill holes in the body of the smoker and put grommets in for probe insertion? If so, is there a post with a how to for this?

Thanks greatly!

The Smoke probes won't fit thru the grommet holes.

Thermoworks says not to shut the door on the cables, but that's what I do with my Lang.

Haven't had a problem yet.

Personally I think I would forget the  ss door & the charcoal ring.

You would do better to buy a rib-o-lator, or some form of rotisserie.

I have the SS door & it doesn't seal any better than the stock door.

Also there is nothing wrong with the factory charcoal ring.

The WSM can have all kinds of leaks & it will still hold a steady temp all day long, right out of the box.

I drop my Maverick probes right through the top vent.  I keep it wide open during my smokes, so it isn't an issue.
