Ive read some posts where the manufacturers reccomend throwing a piece of green wood on the smoker while seasoning. Is it possible that green wood has resins that would aid in sealing the smoker for future use? Does that sound reasonable?

It's called pitch, or creosote. A black tar like substance. All wood has some in it, but green wood has alot more of it!

Captain, so when your seasoning does creosote play a part in it?Or is it something to be avoided at all costs? Im just really chatting this up. For some reason when I read it, it stayed in my mind until someone brought it up today(green wood) in another forum. I certainly dont have access to any green wood worth a hoot anyway.
