I can no longer get to the SMF from my work computer.

The Internet filter settings have been changed to block "Discussion Forums" on our network.

I am in a position in the organization that if I requested a "Local Allow" exception for the site, I am sure it would be honored.

I would have a hard time justifying it as a work-related site though.

Oh well, I'll probably get more work done. It is hard to keep away sometimes when you have a spare moment.

That is sad Dave!
Maybe we could ask you work related questions every once in awhile....then you could justify having access. Worth a try!

excellent..But here at the missile range the puters gurus have caught on to that big time. Big no no ..if you go to a hider site to get to where you want. it's as if you went to prohibited sites anyway. but it may work at your place..give her a shot.....

wreckin I can hide from the wife and kids by clicking on that link

hmmm.... must be at white sands.....
I also work at a "test center"... site isn't blocked ..... but no pictures show and i cant log on.... just read.... and gotta watch for the little red and green monitor symbol in the bottom right hand corner.... Big brother watches often.....

Just tell them if they want any smoked meat at the next office party you need to do your research.

I don't think it would work. "Anonymizers" is another category that is blocked as a matter of policy. There are others that are left up to the site admins. Discussion forums are one of those categories. So . . . if there are other work-related discussion forums that we utilize but can no longer get to, we may request that it be changed.

That is true. And sometimes forum reading time has creeped outside of break-time lunch-time boundaries.

well being at the fire station for up to 72 hours or more..the puter gurus over look some thing for us. But not all. the military has world wide restricted certain sites. youtube is one of them. I am not sure of others.but sometimes when you click on link a page come up stating it has been blocked by big brother.(big tech page and note)
the proxy sites you sure can get to and to the site you want from there.. but the puter security spe******t are not stupid and when it flags up on there system. they know where you went reguardless of what you have done..
for me.I stay where I can that is legal by the folks that make the rules.
and as firefighters they let us on the puter when we want, just no IMing, chat rooms, certain sites ect.. since we live here more then we do in our homes.

I can check out of curiosity -- not that I would use them -- but I can almost guarantee that the anonymizer sites are blocked.

We are a K-8 school district so most of our filtering has to do with protecting children from unsavory and inappropriate aspects of the Internet. Some catagories such as social networking and lingerie sites are blocked at the county level. Other categories are left up the the individual districts to decide. It is not so much a productivity measure for the adults as it is appropriate content for kids. Since some discussion forums of a tech related nature and others are very handy to have access to it would be easy to get this category unblocked but most likely we would just unblock a particular site.

And as Flash pointed out, I am at work and as such work-related protocols should dictate how to proceed.

I will miss my periodic updates but will look forward to checking in after work.
