Here we are on the ferry, leaving the island of Tahiti, this is our new $60 million waterfront park, grass and some trees.
Ninety-five per cent of our goods come in containers, the customs dock.
One man “va’a” (vâ-â) - kayak.
This is where we live, on the mountain side; our house is on top of the ridge in the middle of the photo.
Tahiti FAA’A International Airport, the runway begins and ends at the edge of the lagoon.
Our destination, the island of Moorea, about 8 miles from Tahiti, 1 hour by ferry.
Coming into the pass at Moorea.
A “motu” (mō-to), a small island in the lagoon, ...the sea was quite rough.
The coral reef that surrounds the island.
The ferry dock, ...Moorea is not as inhabited as Tahiti.
The leeward side of Moorea, fisherman’s canoes.
We left the paved road that goes around the island and will go through the center of the island to the cousin’s house. Pineapple plantation, wild grapefruit trees on the right.
Another shot of the pineapple plantation, that is a “calfada” forest in the background, the wood is used to make pallets.
Mount Rotui, it’s photo is on our locally produced juice cartons.
The road leading to where Mel Gibson’s “The Bounty” was filmed, the road is all that is left of the set.
A prawn farm.
A Rambutan tree.
The following photos are taken at the home of Mrs JPT’s cousins.
A Tahitian hima’a, it’s covered with a blue plastic tarp, everyone was waiting to open it.
Someone else was waiting too.
While we were waiting someone wanted some Pacay fruit.
This one is closer and easier to pick, a Tahitian tool to pick the fruit.
This is the fruit inside the pod.
This is the little doll that wanted the fruit, her name is Kiley.
Time to open the hima’a, …under the blue tarp were banana leaves, the food is placed under the banana leaves, around the edge are breadfruits cut in half, bananas in the middle, on the left is a pig.
Bananas and breadfruit.
The pig, …bananas and poi wrapped in banana leaves.
Taking the pig out.
It was a small pig.
