Well I had big plans with my brother to go fishing one day and then have a big smoke another day this holiday weekend. Well I had a little incident Wed night at softball. I rolled my ankle really bad which has put a damper on my plans. Xrays were negative but I could just as well be broken as I can't walk on it at all really. My buddy who is a Paramedic said its the worst sprain he has ever seen. Just what I wanted a huge black and blue swollen ankle for the big weekend. Oh well enough self pitty. Although we aren't going fishing my brother wl_kb3 is still coming to town and we are going to have a big smoke tomorrow so I will at least still get to put out some Q. Can't wait for him to get here so he can help me out with the meat prep. Happy Holiday weekend to you all.

Just some pictures of the baby's ankle for your enjoyment. The pictures don't do it justice but you get the idea.

Ouch!  You had me worried for awhile.  I could see the sprain keeping you from fishing, but I was going to give you some grief if you let it stop you from smoking!

Hang in there, brother...been there myself back when I was 18 y/o. Lots of periods of icing it down and an ace bandage for several days...and those krutches are a bugger...watch out for the downward stair runs, literally! LOL!!!!! They get fun after a few days...I got to where I could out-run people on them!

Have a relaxing weekend of smoke and fellowship...you need it.

Eric

OUch!

Momma managed ta break her foot last weekend.  Be a pain pickin up all the slack fer what she can't do.  Just a little extra work load.

Hope it heals up quick fer ya!

Nice lookin' ankle there RB!

I had to quit playing ball, because I couldn't tone it down. I was always a competitive maniac!

I had 3 broken bones in my life:

Broke right ankle on home plate (safe).

Broke left ankle trying to go into second standing up, because I had shorts on. Left foot went under bag---220 pounds kept going. (safe)

Broke collar bone diving for what would have been a two out grand slam in a championship game (Caught the ball). Was unconscious for about 30 seconds, but the ball stayed in my glove.

So RB, just sit back & eat some Q, have a few beers, and maybe watch some great old war movies (good weekend for that).

Smoking is a lot more relaxing,

Bearcarver

For Pete's sake don't show that much tenderized meat to this crazy crowd. They will be thinking up hundreds of ways to smoke it!

Thanks guys. Yea I am managing to hobble around the yard. My brother wl_kb3 and I are smoking 60+ lbs of meat on my smoke shack. We are also in the process of making him a UDS. If the wind would go down we could burn it out but I don't dare yet.

I feel for you, been there, done that, now may I give you some advice?

Sit down and don't move, keep it packed in ice until the swelling goes down, why?

Because as strange as this is going to sound, you have a potential situation for gout, believe me..., I sprained my ankle like that 30 years ago, last year my bride brought home some local sausage that was almost pure fat, I ate a couple of bites of it, the next morning my ankle started to hurt, by that evening I was barely hobbling on crutches, went to the doctor and he asked me what did I do to hurt it, told him nothing, he felt my ankle and said you are having a gout attack, I thought to myself, what a quack, he asked me it I had injured my ankle before, yep, did I rest and let it heal, nope, then he floored me, he asked me if I had eaten any fatty pork in the last 48 hours!!!  He explained the gout attacks injured tissue, tissue that wasn't allowed to rest and  heal properly and for some reason pork fat can trigger it. I WAS having a gout attack, gave me a shot and some pills and in less than 3 hours I was back to normal.  As he was giving me the shot he was smiling and said, there's a reason why doctors tell us to take it easy after we injure our body, we need to think about our future, ...and to not eat any fatty pork.

That's why I suggest you take it easy, yeah I know it stokes our ego to be macho, but believe me my one experience with the gout is the last one I ever want to have.

Here's to you healing real soon,

Gene

The good news is that your arms are working still, which means you can tend to the Q. Bad news is that we have to change your name to Frodo with that big hairy hoof (just kidding)

Hope the healing comes fast.  You know what goes well with ice packs?  Beer!

Yes indeed that's an ooweeeee. Now I have seen there done that a few dozen times on a skateboard in my day. I'm glad that you are at least able the direct your brother on the art of smoking. Now you will see just how good you are when you have to tell someone what to do. I really do have faith in you and I'm sure you could probably smoke something in your sleep about now. We have seen enough of your smokes to know you can do it.

Wow that is a bad sprain there ouch, i know the feeling i have sprained the same ankle at least two times and its not cool, i bought crutches the last time because i remembered how hard it was to walk from the last time i sprained it. Drink some beers this weekend and stay off it.

I have to back up what JustPassingThru  said. He is very right about gout and about Pork Fat. It contains purinols that cause the really extreme pain of gout. Believe it or not so does white turkey meat and califlower. To describe the pain associated with gout, picture stubbing your toe really hard, now Keep on kicking.... It is one of the most painful things one can experience. When you sprained your ankle it took a few minutes but the pain subsided, not so with gout. It stays intense for hours, even days on end. Better stick with beef and ABT's this weekend just to be safe.
