I have a conundrum and I need some help y'all . I have a 5 lb butt to thaw that I'm gonna make into kalua pork. It needs to be done Saturday evening probably around 6 so it can rest and I pull around 7 .
I also need to turkey hunt Saturday morning with my father in law .
I normally read 1.5 hours per pound .
Should 275 on a smaller butt like that bring me down to an hour per pound ish?
I know it's not done till it's done, but I'm just trying to plan . Throw it on around 11?

Thanks!

Sounds about right, but be weary that every piece of meat is different. Some are stubborn while others will fly through the cooking process. Good luck with both the butt and turkey hunt.

should be good unless it stalls on you. I have had several butts stall on me at about 160 "IT" and the one sat at 160 for 90 minutes in 250 until it started rising again. GOOD LUCK!!

Just be sure not to open the door. Just let it go and that will save a lot of time. It will have a lot of fat rendering out keeping it very moist. And it will be pipeing hot 3+ hours later if u wrap in foil then towel then put in cooler to stay warm

Seems like good logic unfortunately meat is illogical. Just when you think you have it all figured out you have under/over cooked meat at your set dinner time.

At least you’ll be able to cook up some wild turkey if your pork plans fail.

Good luck

cook it earlier you can always wrap in foil and then towels in cooler that way you wont have to worry about it being done in time just some trick to make cook fool proof.

I agree with the cook earlier method, you can always take it out and warp it to let it sit for a few hours. I dont ever really judge a big hunk of meat by the time/lb method, it never fails that its wrong when I needed it to be right.
