That's pretty cool! I've always been fascinated by miniature engines. I also lvw the little working model steam engines. I went through an RC phase years back and was amazed at the amount of power those little nitro engines can produce. 3 hp out of something that weighs less than a pound is just ridiculous.

I think there was an extension off the crank shaft that was being turned by some sort of motor. Maybe a power drill.

I didn't have the sound up when I watched the video so I don't know if it's a working engine or not. I would imagine it is and the manual cranking was just so it was slow enough to see the detail of the valves moving and such.

Looks like its pneumatic. There looks to be an air hose coming out of the bench. you can see it in the first 20 seconds of the video

Did a Google search and it says that it does run on compressed air.

Fine piece of machine work and a lot of patience.

Pretty neat but it is not an engine.  Maybe one could call it a model of an internal combustion engine?

What a labor of love, must be perfectly balanced for those coins to stay standing on edge.  Just imagine the close tolerances involved.
