slowly stepping up to bigger things on the smoker and decided to try a whole turkey. sorry not many pics as only had the camera phone around, but.........
picked up a 13lb turkey from the grocey story. it was pre-brined, said it had the usualy liquid % to keep it moist, so just butterflied it, rubbed it down with squeeze butter and a good sweet/heat chicken/pork rub out of a bottle, cooked in a pan for about 3.75 hours at 280, then let the smoker fire down and covered for about another hour, pulled with IT right around 165-170. let sit covered in the kitchen for another 30 mins or so.
for my first turkey I think it turned out great, both white and dark were both tender moist.
btw, cooked on a yoder 16" side fire box (sorry, don't know the code names for each style yet)
just unwrapped
my best job at quartering it
the white meat beauty
sorry, after this point hands to messy and mouth too full to take pics of dark meat massacre! Best part of being the cook is you get those fresh off the bone pieces for dinner!
