Sorry for the delay. I started this thread about the time we moved from sunshine to well sunshine just 40° temperature drop. Then I just plain forgot. Cannot Remember Stuff (CRS) is a factor of life.
I was wondering if you bought new ends . I assumed you had the round one .
In my case I would need caps , because I want to make one tube into 2 .
They used to sell the caps an the web sight , but I can't find them now .
I took the cutoff piece and folded in some of the sidewall to make an end cap. It is at home or I would attach a photo.
Here is the photos I promised of turning the naked piece into a 5" stub

No one around here sells the A-Maz-N tube to compare, but this knock off is surprisingly of thick gauge material. Even without a cap (collar) on the open end it is stout. The 6 sided shape is inherently stronger that a round or oval tube.

Actually a really good question. Smoke control is the #1 reason
The smoke tube entered my life by getting a pellet grill. I wasn't satisfied with the smoke from my pellet grill. I got my first pellet tube to generate the TBS.
When you use the smoke tube in your pellet grill do you put it a container to catch the ashes or just let them drop? I think my pellet grill will be repaired today so I can start using it this weekend.

I could have swore I posted a photo

I cut down about an inch and folded

No tray. I just place away from the meat.
I don't have a photo that I can find.
Often I push to the rear of the grate. Poopers generate more ash than a tube

Here is how NOT to place the tube. It was adjacent to the temp probe of the pooper.
Tube put out just enough heat to mess with the controls

Slows down the burn rate and keeps whole pellets from falling out. These days though I grind up pellets in a blender and pack the tube with dust and depending on wood species I can get up to 10hrs of tbs on a full load in a 12" tube.
There's an interesting idea. I have 3 6 inch tubes and use varying numbers of them for cheese smoking. Never thought of trying dust in the tubes, although I convert pellets to dust for a tray.
