Lighting the coals: why shouldn't I do this?

OT, but is that Carmine Red? My brother in law had a '74 in Carmine from new, kept almost 25 years, it did NOT look that nice. I really like those Minilite-ish wheels. Alas, my Tiger also sits on a lift, my wife parks her Honda S2000 under it (yes, drip trays!) Anyway, hopefully no tornado here...

Lighting the coals: why shouldn't I do this?

Thank you! It would hard to relate how long it's been sitting in the garage undriven. Now retired, trying to get back into shape so spending more time on my unique bicycles -- gotta work off those BBQ pounds!

Lighting the coals: why shouldn't I do this?

Thanks, all. So far, after more than a year into this topic, have not seen a compelling reason to change what I have been doing; while seeing others have different and perhaps equally valid methods they use.

Really small gas unit to compliment my Kamado

I actually have the adapter but when I got the kamado and discarded my last gas grill, I gave away a full 20# tank! Now I'll need to buy, and store, one.

Really small gas unit to compliment my Kamado

Those all looked good but I put it off; then my wife wanted one ASAP and I caught this Pit Boss on sale at Amazon. It showed up yesterday and within the hour she wanted me to try it but I had neglected to stock up in 1LB gas cylinders -- I had a nearly empty one for my plumbing torch, and it...

    Tiger1964's grilling cabinet

After seeing what dedicated cabinets to fit a kamado grill cost, last year or so I instead decided to flank the grill with a rolling mechanic's cabinet for far less. So far, it worked out very well although one could use even more storage space. But it came with a tongue-and-groove wooden top...

What to do with Eye Round Roast

This ALL sounds good! Alas, trying to imagine two people eating that much in the way of sandwiches, so we'll probably defer putting it on the grill until we have guests. So, had to pick up a few things at Costco today and my wife spied some sockeye, so we're having that instead -- but if the...

What to do with Eye Round Roast

Just picked up a (Black Angus) Beef Eye Round Roast without knowing anything about the cut or what to do with it. Didn't see anything obvious in our two Raichlen cookbooks but perhaps there are similar cuts. It's big, even cutting it in half we'll have two roasts of about 2-1/4LB each, a good 3"...

Really small gas unit to compliment my Kamado

Thanks for great input! :emoji_thumbsup: That looks tailor-made for my needs -- plenty of poor reviews but those are mostly about non-inclusion of accessories or the cover shown in photos but not included. I do not need either. Some of the other grills look interesting too. Including doing an...

Really small gas unit to compliment my Kamado

As much as I like my Kamado, it's a commitment of time & effort to load, heat the charcoal, etc. when, instead of a long, slow smoke, I just want some brats or satay (only two people in our household). I'll confess that sometimes I tell my wife to just cook them indoors...

Thanks, just got some and will try them out.

Routing Probe Wires in a Kamado

I'll double-check that the next time I use the grill. Thanks!

    A probing question

Thanks. I'll get some Dawn, I susally use the cheap stuff at home. And by stainless steel, do you mean these?

Routing Probe Wires in a Kamado

Well, I do have a set of go/no-go feeler gauges, I guess I could check with those. :emoji_wink: But I'll say that in the cases where I grill without using the probes/wires, I see no smoke getting out past the gasket where the halves meet. I do get some leaking out of the -- I think they call it...

Routing Probe Wires in a Kamado

OK, on my latest (third) remote thermometer; an Inkbird and, so far, I love it. But, in any case, I need to get the cable from the probe in the meat out to the "base station", and I'm getting some (some might say too much) escaping smoke from the felt seal where the two halves of the Kamado...

    A probing question

After my ChefAlarm went psychotic, and then the cheap remote thermometer from Lidl which still (barely) works, I am loving the Inkbird after only two uses. But I want to take care of it, and I suspect the part that needs the most attention is the probes. Last night's lamb/feta stuffed onions...

    Hellenized stuffed onions

Glad you liked it. Maybe next time I might substitute German, Thai or Indian influences. Once there's meat and fire... endless options!

    Hellenized stuffed onions

A couple of weeks ago, it was “indoor weather” and the whole weekend, no cooking shows on any of the four PBS stations our cable provides; so we decided to watch some YouTube. Naturally, ended up watching some grilling videos. In one, they showed a hollowed out large onion, wrapped in bacon, and...
