No Salt/ Low Salt/ Salt Substitutes

I too have been taking the no salt/no salt smoking. My rubs have no salt, marinades and injections are low salt, and I make my own BBQ sauce with adding salt. I have found so many recipes and then modified them for no salt. every smoke is refining those recipes.

Humidity and pellets in the NW pacific with Avg humidity of 78%

They don't have cherry or mesquite at the store, and they are unavailable to be shipped in. The price is also 50% more a bag, then if I bought a bunch. I just came back from Colorado and picked up 100 lbs. of the 5 flavor I cook with and it cost me $10/bag for a local distributor there. I am...

Humidity and pellets in the NW pacific with Avg humidity of 78%

OK, I have been saving for just over a year, and I am going to buy a pellet pooper in April. I currently use Lumberjack pellets in with AMNTS & AMNPS with my fridge smoker. I live in Oregon and the humidity today is 87% which is normal for 8-9 months of the year. I store the 20 lbs bags in...

Super Bowl Sunday - What's on your menu?

I am so sad, I was planning on stuffed Poblanos wrapped with bacon, But my smoker had an element short while smoking candy nuts on Monday. It took out the solid state relay (SSR) on the smoker. I'm in the process of rewiring, and getting the SSR in, but I won't be done in time to prep and cook...

Need a Good Rub For Pork butt

I also used Jeff's recipes as a great base. His recipes are well worth it. I have slowly modified to fit my taste (no salt and more heat). With pork I add turbinado sugar instead of brown sugar (turbinado does not cake up). I then wrap and refridge for 24 hours. I also inject the meat before I...

Wow, diethylene glycol, DEG, just didn't appear in the beer accidentally. It is a cheap version of non-toxic glycol used in processing.

Thanks for the compliments on the "Smokin' Duck" smoker, I have so much fun with the smoker, and my wife helps some with the of the more complex time consuming prep, and she always does the side dishes. It is great do things together with my wife and still enjoying a hobby that serves a purpose...

    New Pellet Grill

I agree with the others, within the $1000 price range, the Rec Tec is a good unit. If you can swing it the RT700 is a step up with more sq in of cooking surface. Seems like you can never get enough space, especially if you plan on cooking a bunch of burgers and steaks. Good luck.
